First of all, I don't encourage negligence on UPOU Students like me. Because I learned the lesson of not informing my Teachers in a hard way. Here is my experience.
It was my first time in UPOU. I am so eager to take my first ever MidTerms and will do anything to pass it. However, I got hospitalized 3 days before exam so I took it there instead of informing my teacher for a valid reconsideration.
If you are confined in a hospital and you are expecting Midterm Exams, what will you do? Here are the road I have taken and the road the should have took.
1. The road I have taken
So when you are UPOU Student and is confined to a hospital, you become both a patient and a student. Therefore you are a patient student. Yeah that joke didn't landed well.
A. Anticipate Antibiotic rounds
You are confined because there are no option for cure except Intra Venous Antibiotic or what BS Nursing call IVs. When you are on IV, expect side effects. You will be dizzy, become irritable, and seriously exhausted -physically, emotionally, and even mentally.
So if there are sided effects of antibiotics, can it stop you from reviewing? Yes, if you don't realize that there are half lifes. Soon, it will subside down and you are NORMAL again. Check if you ard anxious for the exams again. Yeah that's the indication it subsided down.
During the whole duration of IVs, says 30 minutes, just go to sleep or relax for awhile. It will calm you down and prepare you for another review. After the side effects, then you can review again and become more focused.
B. When the Doctor rounds
You have to know your progress. Is the medicine resistant or sensitive? Will there be any Laboratory test again? If there are, what's the preparations you must take. Will you go fasting? These are reality of patient students like me. So i want to share it to an audience who may undergo this road any time. Since you are in UPOU, we have to be independent as long as we can.
Inform the Doctor that you are taking the Midterms. When I did it, it boost the morale of my Physician after he realised that progress is not dependent on health condition. God can turn your mess into a message.
2. The road I should have took
So we, UPOU Students, are encouraged to reason on the citation of "the benefit of the doubt". For example, is it possible for me to ask medical record during confinement and send it for citation of a valid retake? Absolutely yes.
Ask the Doctor to write a Medical Record. He will live it on the Nurse Station and you can scan and upload it on Email. You can send it on your Learning Center Coordinator who inform your teacher for a retake. Don't worry if you access the grades much late compared to others. As long as it is record, it is still official and valid Midterms.
After all the heroism, I scored low on that Midterm Exams but I learned the Lesson. Again, as matured living organism, I take the full responsibility of my actions and blame no other life forms.

Midterms Exam: How to review and take it in Hospital?
2 ways to chisel "Responsible UPOU Student" in you
Some of us entered through UPOU through Under Graduate Assessment Test held on our respective Learning Centers. Some are from UP traditionals then transferred course to Online Learning for thousand beneficial gains. However, if you're from traditional type and decided to go Online Learning for the first time, there will be a drastic "Behavioral Change".
First, there won't be any classmates to ask schedules or answers from. Then, you have to read your module and understand it well. However, if something came up or you became complacent about the subject, then cramming is on the way to stress you up. So to avoid those what they call "hell week", the 7days before mid-terms or finals, we have to develop a plan, stick to it, learn to turn off the wifi, uninstall Apps, and go for audible lip reading.
1. Set a schedule
I recommend AsapScience's Science of Productivity because I reap the good GAINS after following their advice. So here's the video and let's pause for a while.
If you're a serious UPOU Student, you must have been flaring up with new and ablazed passion to start right now. Actually, their advices are more than enough and i can't add anything on it. So Yeah.
2. Be friendly and socialize
UPOU Students are real people. Why do you want to socialize? We have to consider that even if we are Online Learners, we can't teach ourselves by using modules alone. You need other people to ask informations, contribute what you know, and log out facebook once in a while. Yes! It's for your own sake.
Learning process is best achieved when you are in a group of people that you trust. And that's the best feeling of being an Online Learner, we trust each other. You can teach me and I am willing to learn from you. So both teacher and student persona became evident, spending their most precious time in united purpose which is to pass the ever precious and most awaited "release" of Final Grades.
Back to reality, admitting you don't know all things and you need others while anticipating to help them are signs of character maturity. Yes. So if you can attend to Student Initiated course Reviews, go. If you are on wheelchairs, will it stop you from learning? Is your wheels an excuse enough? No. Let the passion for Education become the feet that motivates you to take another step forward.
To sum it up, it is advisable to create fixed schedules and attend reviews. This will make you learn progressively and become a full-blooded, self-assessed, Responsible UPOU Student.

3 reasons why Math1 module is the BEST
I grew up in a classroom environment where my math teachers are treated as enemy. We hate them and they us the same. I belong to those kids who would rather scribble in notebook during math. I hate math. So as kid's response to hard subjects, i don't care at all. It's over. All i want is play and bully other classmates and set up pranks. yeah.
Well, i reap the consequences of my action later on. So Math has been a consistent line of 7. I.e. 75, 76, 77, and 75 again!. But i didn't fail up to the point of taking remedial classes although i take tutors.
Later on I realize, when i grew up to become a man, that math is needed and i am not sharp enough to pass this subject. Yeah bearing the flag of University of the Philippines makes anyone a superhero on his own. So i have to do what i can now and respond right by self studying. You know you are a D.E. learner if you came to fear the reality of ignorance. And so i purchased a book from OASIS and do my part through advance study.
These are the 3 reasons why you should love Math1 module by Mr. Reuben V. Quiroga
1. Encouraging tone
So for those who are new in UPOU "feeling", we have module through .pdf or ms word. But these are only accesible to the mystudent portal later on. So we can purchase hardbound books and pay through PNB.
Mr. Quiroga wrote the module to his friend. Yes thanks sir, you treated us as your friends. Why would I say that? The tone he uses is friendly and encouraging and spiritual. Yeah.
Have you read other modules that makes you inferior? Well, interpersonal aspects can be taken to account but everyone loves to interact, be it written or spoken communication. So Mr. Quiroga treats us, you and me, with respect. He uses gentle words to encourage you every ASAQ part, the key answers-section. For instance he uses "cheer up and move on". Of course i won't qoute more because it'll be a spoiler. However, the encouragement is consistent. You can feel that answering wrong will not define who you are or degrade you as D.E. man/woman/professionals/parents. He treats us with respect. And if i only received that same respect from the teachers on my "traditional classroom" days? I would have enjoyed Math. I would have learned not through forced-labor but through willful passion. Thanks Sir Quiroga you write the module best.
2. Math as Human approach
Math, according to our past experience that affects our present perception is a painful subject. We excel in other subjects but not in Math. And that feeling discourages a kid who only wants to be praised for his good deeds and beg patience on his weaknesses. However, isolations and social exclusions are predominant to "traditional approach". And those who are able but are discouraged remains unable because they are never encouraged.
The author explained the reasons why a problem is solved. Instead of the traditional
"1.)A, check.
2.) B, wrong.
3.) B, wrong."
Pattern from the traditional, he explained why it is correct, how to get, and the assurance that it's okay if we don't get it because we can try it again.
3. Worth the pay
First of all, i first hated books. I hate learning. But when i came to discover the fun of having informations rotate your "me time", i fell in love on it. Books are investments. Why? We will live the earthly life by default. As long as there is an Oxygen, there will always be a constant decay. However, man has created mediums of communication where we can relate to the past and the future generations. And this is through writing. So when you collect books, you are investing for a high quality human that are potential leaders. So why acquire hardbound Math1 when we can store it on device storages, use compatible readers, and move on. Well, it's a personal choice. But either be it handheld or virtually stored, what matters is you enjoy the learning approach that works best for you.
Know your intellegence, Gardner's Multiple Intelegence. If you are a Linguistic as I am, then we love to reflect on our books, treat it as Jewels, and later on, pass the same passion on our kids.
So this module worth the pay if you value Education. If you are approving anything that promotes education, i salute you. It'a all worth it.
Surely Math is a friend. We may have started on a wrong foot but there are always second chance to know this subject in a non-biased approach and open hearted learning.
